The Strength of the Full Armor

Where the Spiritual Becomes Practical
Ephesians 6.10-13
Matthew Raley (7-17-11)

How well-armed you are depends on the force you’re up against.  Andy Griffith was armed well enough for Mayberry, but how well would he have managed against the German Blitzkrieg.  In today’s sermon we see how strong our armor needs to be to stand in the face of the spiritual threat we are faced with.

The Spiritualities of Wickedness

Where the Spiritual Becomes Practical
Ephesians 6.11-12
Matthew Raley (7-10-11)

We imagine the devil as a lurking monster, when in reality he appears as neutral as our desires.  Those cravings whose satisfaction we so easily rationalize are in fact lusts as foul as the devil.  What is the relationship between the devil and our lusts?  In this sermon we explore this connection as it is made in Ephesians and elsewhere in Scripture.

The Lord’s Strength In Ephesians

Where the Spiritual Becomes Practical
Ephesians 6.10
Matthew Raley (6-26-11)

Most people think of  music as an emotional, mystical experience.  For musicians, on the other hand, it is a very practical matter.  Imagining music is a very different thing from actually picking up a violin and drawing the horsehair across its strings.  The same can be said for spirituality.  People think of it as an emotional, mystical experience.  In reality, like music, spiritual truth has emotional results, but it is essentially practical.  Today the connection between spiritual beliefs and practical behaviors is being lost, leaving many to stray into mysticism.

This week, having finished our study of the beginning of Ephesians, we will jump ahead to the end to make the many connections between Paul’s doctrine in the first two chapters and his famous teaching on spiritual warfare in Chapter 6. It’s time for the horsehair to hit the strings in our daily lives.
